Mobile Phone Insurance - Protect your investment

In these connected times, when mobility decides profit and loss, it is important to have mobile phone insurance. Theft or loss, or some sort of damage could deprive you of your cell phone, make cell phone insurance a worthwhile option for peace of mind.

Around fifty to sixty thousand mobile phones are stolen or lost every month. Imagine that you have lost your invaluable mobile. What does this imply for you?

  • losing the phone number you use for your business purposes
  • paying for a new connection
  • paying for a replacement
  • paying the charges that the thief incurs on your mobile phone

While insuring your mobile phone, it is important that you compare insurance policies for their variations, the terms and claim conditions that different insurers offer, the coverage amount they quote, and all other specifications and limitations. Insurers could offer coverage on any of the following:

  • Theft of your mobile phone
  • Any accidental damage including water damage
  • Loss and fraudulent calls
  • Extended warranty

If you are convinced that you need protection against loss of your cell, how do you go about it?

There are four ways in which you can go about getting your cell insured:

  • Insure your phone through the home contents cover
  • Approach your airtime supplier
  • Approach an insurer
  • Browse the web for companies offering cover

If your phone is stolen, the insurer will give you a replacement or provide the monetary replacement for a new mobile. You can get your mobile insured either through the home contents policy by adding your mobile phone to the list of home content to be insured, thus confirming that prevention is better than cure; or go to a separate insurer for the same insurance and get your work done faster.

Having your airtime supplier insure your cell phone could have both positive and negative consequences: The positive effect is that your work will get done faster and all your requirements regarding your mobile phone will be dealt with under the same roof. This also enhances mobility, getting your work done without losing too much time. The negative fallout is that you may not be able to get choosy and get the exact type of coverage you want.

Orange, Vodafone, T-Mobile, Virgin, are some of the firms that cover loss and accidental damage to mobile phones. You would need to also know which suppliers cover the accessories and not just the phone.
