Many people use a cell phone today. It is available in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors and can be used to talk, play games, manage your daily schedule, send and receive emails, or just to show around and click photographs. All in all, it is a very useful gadget. But have you ever wondered how cell phone works? These electronic gadgets function on a similar basis as a radio, in that it detects signals from towers and converts them into the function we want. The difference is that this electronic based cell phone has a cellular system in which these phones are part of a base station that allows the signal to be reused across a city. Typically, the coverage of this base station is approximately 10 square miles. Being an electronic gadget, a cell phone to operate seamlessly in a city requires a number of base stations active in the city that are all connected to a mobile telephone switching office that links these cellular phone signals to the landline system and vice-versa. As gadgets that comprise of electronics may have their use dented by interference, these cellular phones also have an electronic gadget (or by mechanical means otherwise) to shield or boost its respective signals. These gadgets work on the fact that on turning on these handsets, signals are sent out to determine how you are located in terms of distance to the base station, etc. or which gadgets are being used on this network. By the use of expensive electronics in the circuitry, the signals are seamlessly transmitted from one tower to another tower as one roams about, conveying the relevant messages of the gadgets to the base tower. Research is continuously poured into this field to look for ways to develop the necessary electronics to be used in the handset and wireless based communications markets so as to develop a fail proof system Only time can tell how successful we are in this regards.
