GPS Cell Phones - global positioning systems and security issues

GPS is the abbreviation of Global Positioning System, and GPS cell phones are cell phones that inform the receiver/user of where he or she is located in the world.

The requirement of GPS capabilities to be made compulsorily available in all call phones was due to the fact that many emergency calls made from a mobile handset were not diagnosed as to the position or location of these. Unlike landline calls, which identify where the caller is positioned on the operator’s screen that save valuable time.

These forms of cell phones use the Global Positioning System network of satellites to locate the handsets. A sub-sect of the use of these systems is that the GPS allows the user to maneuver oneself along busy roads by giving out the position of traffic jams and roads to avoid.

However, with the Global Positioning system, there come a few doubts on its effective use as it also invades one’s privacy. As one is constantly on the radar of the systems in place, you will be continuously positioned in the network. Filial as it may sound, but if these records were to fall into the wrong hands, the common activities, routes taken by you and even the internal layout of your residence will be there for all to take note of. You could sooner or later be positioned to the top of the most wanted person, for all the wrong reasons!

As for the position of the system as it is today in G.P.S., is that the scope of development is large but necessary security measures have to be incorporated to prevent its misuse.
