To get a conversation across to another cell phone, that may even be just across the street, a network of cell phone towers are required. It is through these towers that signals from a cell is transmitted and received. Either placed on high ground or atop relatively tall buildings, these towers are erected separately for each and every cell phone service provider. This is done to avoid the signals from various operators from being mixed up. The towers are built from a metal lattice and has a set of amplifiers, antenna, boosters and a dedicated 24 hour power line. The cell phone coverage is determined by the number of towers of that particular service provider in the area. The tower covering any area for a particular service provider will always have the antenna facing a particular direction and at a particular height. Any discrepancy in this will result in a drop in the coverage of the tower in question. As the phone company expands its network, dead spots are reduced drastically. Primarily so as the boosters and transmitters on each tower has a fixed range of area it covers and the more the number, the less will be the strain on each of the telecommunicatiionn network. There is a limitation to where the network can grow as covering an area that has lots of structures in it that absorb EM waves will not prove to be of any use to the service provider to try and connect the phones in that range. Not only do these antennas play a part in determining how much area a service provider covers, but even the quality of the phones affects the coverage area. Thus its recommended to service providers that instead of arbitrarily adding to its network in the hope of covering a larger area, it’s beneficial they study which phones are predominantly used in their weaker areas of coverage and determine if the transmitters and receptors are 100% compatible with them. Besides checking on reasons why the range of the instrument is not as what it should cover.
