Cell Phone Repeater - improving your wireless phone's signal strength

A cell phone repeater has an amplifier and a transmitter combined into one. The repeater is born out of the fact that as waves get emitted from a cell phone tower, the cell phone signal strength decreases based on distance traveled and obstructions that come in the midst, especially those that absorb the E.M. waves.

Repeaters have an advanced electronic setup and are thus very sensitive to minute signals as well. The receiver in a cell phone can only pick up signals of certain magnitude. Repeaters help pick up all these minute signals and pass it on to the cellular phones.

The repeater, with its transmitter, has a capacity that is usually twice as strong as that found in the cellular phones. With a strong transmitter, a signal for a mobile will be clearly available for the recipient, even though the reception may also be on the outskirts of the reach of the signal.

Repeaters, on increasing the strength of the signals, do help to conserve the battery power of the cell phone as the cellular phones assume its in close proximity to the signal origin. As the power required is proportionate to the distance to the signal origin, with an increase in strength of the waveform, the battery is able to conserve its power.

For an area such as an office that gets a bad reception and where there are a number of people with handsets, it will be a good idea to install a common repeater. This is due to the fact that the signal strength that is increased by the unit enables multiple handsets to be improved simultaneously.
