RealNetworks, the leading creator of digital media services and software, and palmOne have announced that customers of existing cell phone carriers can now use their mobile telephone services to play music purchased from the new RealPlayer Music Store. You need to check with your carrier if this service is available, of course, but if they don’t it is probably worth changing carriers if you are a serious music lover.

RealNetworks is also making available the RealPlayer for the Treo™ 600 cell phone, allowing users to play MP3 and RealAudio files, along with any music purchased from the RealPlayer Music Store, while using their Treo 600 cell phones. This is the first time that a PDA or cell phone will be able to directly transfer and play secure, digital music purchased from a major music download service, making palmOne music cell phones as a great advancement in music enjoyment.

Servicing The Entire Range Of Tungsten Phones

By using simple “drag and drop,” functionality users will be able to transfer secure music to their Tungsten range of cell phones including the T3, T2, T, C, E and Zire 71. Because these cell phones now have such extensive market penetration the RealPlayer Music Store will service the transfer of music and audio to more than one million palmOne cell phones and handhelds.

palmOne delivers what customers say they want – practical and usable cell phone technologies that integrate into other devices. This latest announcements is in line with palmOne’s policy of responding to customer feedback.

To enable support for the RealPlayer Music Store on palmOne devices RealNetworks has integrated RealAudio 10 with AAC and their Helix digital rights management tools. Helix allows cell phone manufacturers to offer cell phone users access to secure, digital media experiences. This is a high bonus for users as they can now listen to music but don’t need to carry a second portable device to do so.
